Jack Petchey Achievement Awards – Nominate Today!
The Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards celebrate young people aged 11–25 who go above and beyond—whether that’s showing resilience, helping others, or making a positive impact in their group. These awards are a brilliant way to recognise Scouts and Explorers and to unlock funding for experiences that benefit everyone.
If we don’t use our nominations, we lose them—so let’s make sure we celebrate the amazing young people and leaders in our District!
Who Can Be Nominated?
- Scouts and Explorers aged 11–25
There are 8 awards a year for Young People of £300 - Scout and Explorer Leaders (Aged 21 and over with at least 1 years service).
There are 3 leaders awards a year, with an opportunity to claim up to £1,000 for Scouting. - Must be part of a Scout or Explorer Unit within the District
How to nominate
- Watch for an invite – the District’s Jack Petchey administrator will send out a nomination request to leaders each term.
- Choose a nominee – someone who’s made a difference, shown leadership, or overcome challenges.
- Complete the nomination form – our local form will be included in the invite email, so no need to hunt it down.
- Include your Citation, this bit of the form is important. The award winner needs to understand what they have achieved. It is what makes them feel proud to be a winner. Guidance on how to write a good citation is available here.
- Send in your nomination – details of where to send it will be included in the invite.
Please reply promptly when the invite goes out—nominations are time-sensitive, and unused slots may be lost. Even a short response makes a big difference.
Examples of what the money can be spent on:

Why It Matters
These awards aren’t just about recognition—they’re about empowering young people, boosting confidence, and giving them opportunities they might not otherwise have. Let’s make sure we use every nomination we’re entitled to.

Have questions, please have a look at our FAQ below:
Can a young person be nominated for an award more than once?
No, a young person can only receive an award once within Sutton Scouts. We will double check any nominations against our list of previous award winners before approving them.
How will we know that our nomination has been successful?
After the deadline has passed the certificate etc for young people will be passed to their leader to hand out. They will also be invited to an event in November to present their medal. Leaders will not find out until they are invited to attend the Jack Petchey Award ceremony in November.
Who decides what the grant is spent on?
The grant must be spent on activities for the benefit of the group or unit that the award winner attends. The award winner should help to decide what the grant will be spent on. You cannot use a grant for the same activity in less than two years.
What happens if there are more than 8 nominations for young people or 3 for leaders?
The DLV will review all the submissions that meet the criteria and select which ones will be taken forward. We will look to make sure that every Scout Group or Explorer Unit in Sutton could have awards given. Nominates can also roll over to the next timeframe.
Who can nominate someone for an award?
Any leader can nominate a young person but their peers should be involved in the selection. Leaders should be nominated by young people with the support of parents or other volunteers.
